GIVING THANKS FOR EVERYTHING

We welcome you with the Ganönyök under our large Gustoweh. The Onöndowa’ga:’ are very thankful people. We give thanks for everything before we meet, or when we gather together in groups. As we speak the Ganönyök we make our minds one. We are thankful for everything around us that us brought us to this point and in a thankful mind we can work together to accomplish our goals for our families and communities.

George Washington gave the tomahawk to Cornplanter in 1792 as a gift during discussions for the Treaty of Canandaigua. Signed in 1794, the Treaty of Canandaigua confirmed the sovereignty of the Haudenosaunee with the United States pledging to honor the land rights of the Haudenosaunee people.
